THE DOULA CONNECTION

When you sign on with one of the doulas at VIDA, here is what you can expect:

• 1-2 prenatal visits in your home.

• Unlimited contact by phone, email and text.

• 24 hour on call for you from two weeks before your due date.*

• Continuous support throughout your labour and delivery until 1-2 hours after the birth.

• A minimum of 2 post-partum visits within two weeks of the birth.

* We will do our best to attend your birth should it happen before 38 weeks.

A doula to call your own is $1400

MEET THE DOULAS

The doulas at VIDA have developed a strong relationship with each other over the years. We are familiar with each other's style of support and values pertaining to birth. You have the opportunity to choose one of us as your primary doula. 

You will also have the peace of mind that if a back-up is needed, one of the other amazing doulas of VIDA will be available with the same consistent and professional care plan that you have established with your primary doula. Choosing a doula to attend and support your birth is a very emotional and personal decision; therefore, we encourage you to choose the VIDA doula that you feel the best connection with; but also have the confidence that your doula belongs to a professional, positive and dedicated group of lovely and like minded women.

We consider ourselves an integral member of the birthing team, striving to ensure the birth experience is the best it can be. The similarity in our practices, philosophies on birth and outlooks on life is what brought us together. We want to make sure that in the off chance your primary doula is not able to attend your birth, you know that another doula with the same qualities and level of knowledge will be there for you.

As a group we offer many services including doula support, childbirth education, breastfeeding education, assistance and more. Everything you need, you will find here with VIDA.

"Barb has been a birth and postpartum doula (DONA and ProDoula) since 2008. She believes that how we birth our babies matters, not just to families, but to society as a whole.

Having a trained and supportive doula can make a significant difference to how birthing couples view their experience and she is dedicated to making that difference.

Barb is a proud mother of four wonderful children and two grandchildren (so far). Her children were born in her 20's, 30's and 40's and she believes that gives her a unique insight into birth at all stages of life. In her previous life, she was a paralegal and commercial fishing entrepreneur."

Jay is a birth doula and a Lamaze certified childbirth educator. Jay came to this work after the two challenging and life changing births of her two currently, young adult children, and has dedicated the past twelve years to birth work.  Jay is passionate about supporting women and families through the most vulnerable, yet powerful time in their lives.

The compassionate support of a doula can help a woman obtain the strength, courage and trust she needs in order to handle the many challenges of labour and birth. Knowledge is key and Jay will provide relevant, evidence based information to help a family make decisions that are right for them, before, during and after their birth.

Laura is taking repeat clients (or those having had a baby before), teaching private classes and will continue to offer breastfeeding support.

Laura has been a Victoria based birth doula, since 2004. Before that, she lived in Vancouver where she attended many births in most of the major labour and delivery wards on the mainland. Before leaving the mainland, she trained as a breastfeeding counsellor and a childbirth educator determined to help expectant couples prepare for their birth experience and the immediate post-partum period.

As a doula, Laura walks couples through the journey towards parenthood, with utmost respect for what they want.

On a personal note: Laura is the mother of three amazing girls and the grandmother of an ever expanding flock.  Oh yes, she is also fluent in Spanish.
